Who Benefits?

The Willow Glen 5K Run Walk benefits the community by bringing neighbors together for a healthy activity and gathering in the end of downtown Willow Glen. Willow Glen Elementary has a tradition of community involvement. Willow Glen Elementary has always been an active partner in the downtown business community, participating in the Founder’s Day Parade and hosting the Willow Glen Community Tree Lighting ceremony.


The Willow Glen 5K Run Walk proceeds benefit the Willow Glen Elementary PTA. Amongst the severe budget cuts resulting in teacher and staff layoffs, increased class sizes and forced furlough days, the Willow Glen Elementary PTA has stepped up to become more active than ever. Volunteers also lead hands-on art and science lessons, as well as organizing many after school events — including a book fair, science fair.
In 2009, the PTA launched a band program — complete with an on-site music teacher and instruments. This year, the school added an advanced band program and an after school dance program led by Ballet Folklorico. The PTA funding will also add monthly lessons by Schmahl Science, featuring an innovative, standards-based curriculum.
